Citizenship

Have you been living as a permanent resident in Canada for at least three years in the past five years and have filed your taxes? You may be eligible to apply for Canadian citizenship! The applicant must:

  • Be a permanent resident and have lived in Canada for 1,095 days (3 years) in the last five years

  • Have filed your taxes

  • Pass a citizenship test

  • Prove language proficiency

 

If you are 18 to 54 years of age at the time of your application, you must demonstrate you can speak and listen in English or French. The proficiency test requirement is CLB 4.

 

The citizenship test will test your knowledge on the rights and responsibilities of Canadians and Canada’s history, geography, economy, government, laws and symbols.
