Family Sponsorship

This program allows you to sponsor your family members to come live with you in
Canada. Under this category, you can apply to bring your spouse or common-law
parner and dependente children, your parents and grandparents, your adopted children
and certain relatives.
 
In order to sponsor a family member, you must meet the basic requirements:
 

  • You must be at least 18 years old and be a permanent resident or citizen of Canada

  • You should not be receiving any social assistance

  • You may need to provide proof of financial stability to support your sponsored family member

  • The person you are sponsoring must also be eligible to come to Canada, pass medical exams, present police clearance documents and collect biometrics

 

Sponsoring your spouse or common-law partner:

- You can sponsor your partner, regardless of their gender, as long as you both
are at least 18 years old and legally married, in a common law relationship or in
a conjugal relationship
- You must be able to prove that your relationship is genuine. In addition, you
must provide personal documents and information from both you, your spouse
and dependent children, if any. 
 
Sponsoring your dependent children:
- You can sponsor your children if they are still a dependent family member
- A dependent child must be under 22 years old and not be legally married or in a
common law relationship
 
Sponsoring your relatives:
- You can sponsor your orphaned brother, sister, nephew, niece or grandchild
- They have to be related to you by blood or adoption
- Both their parents are deceased
- They must be under 18 years of age
- They must be single
 
Sponsoring your parents and grandparents
- You can sponsor your own parents and grandparents, as long as they are
related to you either by blood or adoption. 
You must be able to demonstrate you meet minimum income requirements for the
past three years. You can meet these requirements by yourself or including your
spouse or common-law partner.
