Open Work Permit

An Open Work Permit allows you to work for any employer in Canada. But this permit is
issued only in specifics situations. Below you will find a list of what these situations can
be.

  • if you graduated from a designated learning institution you could be eligible for a Post Graduate Study Permit

  • if you are a student who can no longer meet the cost of your studies

  • if you have an employer-specific work permit and are being abused in relation to your job

  • if you applied for permanent residency in Canada

  • if you are a dependent family member of someone who applied for permanent residency

  • if you are the spouse or common-law partner of a skilled worker or international student

  • if you are a refugee

  • if you are under a removal order

  • if you are a temporary resident

  • if you are a young worker participating in special programs

In addition to being in one of these specific situations, all applicants must meet the following:

Engineers at work
  • Have a passport that is valid for 6 month or more.

  • Have no criminal or immigration-related convictions.

  • Convince an immigration officer that you have ties to your home country

  • Convince an immigration officer that you will leave when your work permit expires

  • Pass a medical exam
