Rural and Northen Immigration Pilot

This pilot is a community-driven program, which means only certain communities in
some provinces of Canada offer this opportunity.


This program was created to help the economic growth of smaller communities and
create a path to permanent residence for skilled workers who wish to live and work in
one of those communities.


The participating communities in this program are:

  • Ontario: North Bay, Sudbury, Timmins, Sault Ste. Marie, Thunder Bay

  • Manitoba: Brandon, Altona/Rhineland

  • Saskatchewan: Moose Jaw

  • Alberta: Claresholm

  • British Columbia: Vernon, West Kooteney

Each community will have its own requirements, but in general, you will need:

  • Have work experience or have graduated from a public school

  • Meet education requirements

  • Meet language requirements

  • Prove you have enough funds available to support yourself

  • Intend to live in the community chosen

  • Have a valid status in Canada
