Student Visa
A Study Permit is intended to those who wish to study in Canada for more than 6
months at a designated learning institution.
A Study Permit is not a visa and does not allow you to enter Canada. You will also need
a valid Visitor Visa or an eTA (electronic travel authorization) to enter Canada. If your
study permit is approved, a visa will be issued with it.
Please note: you do not need a Study Permit if you are planning to study in Canada for
6 months or less.
To be eligible for a Study Permit, you must:

have a valid (LOA) LETTER OF ACCEPTANCE from a designated learning institution

have a passport that is valid for the duration of your studies

prove that you have enough money for:
- tuition fees
- support yourself and any family member who accompanies you to Canada
- return ticket for yourself and any family member who accompanies you

have no criminal or immigration-related convictions

convince an immigration officer that you will leave Canada at the end of your studies

If you are allowed to travel within Canada

The exact date you must leave Canada

Where you can study (you will not be able to attend any other designated learning institution other than the one listed on your permit)
